With moulding and ceiling medallions in place, the ceiling completes the room as a cherry on top of a sundae would. But with spring cleaning approaching the horizon, ceilings may deserve a second look. While generally low maintenance, your ceiling still requires a little TLC. Read on for some easy ceiling cleaning tips!

General Ceiling Cleaning

You likely already have everything you need to clean your ceiling. For general cleaning, wiping the ceiling using a broom covered with a soft cloth or t-shirt will do. You can also try vacuuming the ceiling with a soft brush attachment. For a deeper clean, you can throw together a home-made cleaning solution by diluting 2 tablespoons of white vinegar or ammonia in a quart of water. After you've washed the ceiling, rinse with clear water and a clean sponge or rag. If the stains remain, apply a stain-resistant sealer and repaint.

How To Clean Decorative Mouldings and Medallions

The grooves and raised surfaces of a ceiling's decorative molding can become a mecca for trapping dust, grease, and soot. When needed, clean dusty trim with a vacuum brush attachment, a feather duster, or a soft paint brush. You can also use the same solution as above, with the added punch of a ¼ cup of baking soda. Simply use a spray bottle and wipe small sections of moulding at a time. Rinse with plain water and wipe the molding dry with a soft, clean cloth.

Other Ceiling Cleaning Tips

Perhaps your home is adorned with more than one moulding element. Picture mouldings, for example. Or even ceiling tiles! For picture mouldings, a soft paint brush or cotton swabs are ideal for removing dust. Ceiling tiles can be vacuumed regularly, and also have the advantage of easily hiding dirt thanks to their colorful pattern variations. That being said, preventing water from damaging the tiles is extremely important as these will eventually need to be replaced. can easily hide
